New Year's Eve 2010

This is the 42nd New Year Eve that Hub and I have spent together. Staying home tonight with ShrekIII, homemade cookies. and a new puppy. Making history with the number of apps we are downloading on our new Droid phones. Even the dog is stir crazy, but it is thunderstorming outside, so no going out.
2010 has been a mixed bag. This new puppy has kept us laughing and weary since July. Facebook has entered our conciousness. Took some great trips. Spent inadequate amount of time with the fast growing grandchildren, but they run and hug us whenever we are together.

Our small business did ok, better than many, but continues to be greatly more difficult than it ought to be. We are waffling on when to retire. Our health is good, we are very fortunate to be on no meds at age 62. So we can continue to earn, but we are dealing with ongoing burnout, even when things are good. I mean, we've done this for thirty, yes thirty, years straight.

All around us we have family and friends that are struggling with unemployment, or underemployment. The economy makes the world pretty scary as we head into 2011. Our decision is compounded by the fact that we are in business together. We can’t go on forever, but we have not figured out how to quit.

Each day we count our blessings. Not much more to say about the fact that we do expect a happy new year.
